Eye Health Benefits of Ithmid

Unlike most cosmetics, ithmid (kohl, surma or kajal) isn’t just used for beauty purposes. It is actually very beneficial to eye health and has been used historically as a medicinal treatment for many eye related problems.

We are proud to carry 100% pure ithmid sourced from the Hejaz or Maghreb that is free of lead, chemicals and preservatives. It has been crushed into a fine powder and then packaged in a vintage brass bottle with an applicator stick. This is the same type of ithmid that was used by the prophet and is classed as saheeh by al-Albaani.

There are several benefits of ithmid which include:
Ithmid protects the eyes and gives strength and clarity of vision. It also cleanses the eye of bad substances. Ithmid helps to relieve headache. It is useful for old people whose eyesight has weakened. It dissolves excess flesh around ulcers and closes the wound while cleansing the area. Ithmid also strengthens the eye nerve and is useful for those who have a tendency to squint their eyes. It reduces eye fatigue and prevents dryness and itching of the eyes. Ithmid improves the growth of the eyelashes and makes them longer.

Ithmid is also very effective in increasing blood flow to the eyes which can help to prevent or treat ocular diseases like glaucoma, as well as other health conditions. This is because it increases nitric oxide, a chemical that dilates the blood vessels and increases blood flow to the eyes. This is why it is recommended in the Sunnah that we apply it at least once every day.
